Day 2

From Miranda Drive to connect to Hurakei Rail Trail near Paeroa, off road cycling on smooth gravel to Thames
Day 3

54km

Thames – via Coromandel – to Whitianga

Bike to Coromandel and drive to Whititanga – miss the BIG hill

Day 4

43km

Whitianga to Tairua

Catch Ferry -, option on the way to go to Cooks beach and other stops.

Day 5

77km

Tairua to Waihi Beach via Whangamata
Day 6

137km

Waihi to Rotorua (REST DAY)

Stops at Katikati – Mural Town

Walk around Mt Maunganui

Visit 360 Kiwi Fruit Center www.kiwi360.com

Rotorua- evening – options Cultural Show or Hot Mud pools in gardens.

Day 7

87km

Rotorua to Taupo

Back on the bikes and follow cycle lane out of town.

Stop at Waiotapu – free hot pool dip, then left onto

Broadlands Rd (Taupo Ironman Course) to bring you into Taupo

Activities: soak in hotwater pools near river walk which also takes you to Huka Falls a two hour walk

Day 8

74km

Taupo to Ohakune

Drive from Taupo to top of BIG hill south of Turangi – avoiding Highway 1. Walk Lake Rotopounamu. Then on bikes to cycle to Ohakune – round the mountains, great views of Ngauruhoe-Tangariro-Ruapehu

Day 9 Ohakune – (REST DAY)

  1. Walk/bike – Old coach Road to view railway viaduct old and new

  2. Walk Tangariro Crossing

  3. Visit Smash Palace.

Day 10 Ohakune drive back to Auckland
